In 1893, engineer Alberto de Palacio, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, built the Bizkaia Bridge in Bilbao, Spain. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The transporter bridge, known as Puente Colgante, connects Portugalete to Las Arenas across a span of 164 meters. To cross the Nervión River, you can ride even by car on the gondola, which operates 24 hours a day, or take the elevator to the upper platform and admire the enchanting scenery of the Bay of Bilbao and the Abra. In Bilbao, Puente Colgante can be reached by metro. More information is available on the official website.
