The Monster leather armchair was designed by Marcel Wanders for Moooi in the Netherlands. It is a soft, elegant black chair with a monster face on the back. The motif suggests the eternal struggle between opposing forces in life, yet the effect is more playful than frightening. Scary? Absolutely not. You'll forget all about monsters and dark thoughts as soon as you sit down and enjoy the chair’s comfort and softness.
The leather chair with and without the monster face
This black leather chair has a striking presence. It is a design object for bold interiors. Inspired by the Gothic style, Marcel Wanders created a series of chairs and stools that stir the imagination. The Monster Chair consists of a steel frame covered with fire-retardant faux leather.

The chairs and stools are available with or without a monster face on the black leatherette. The black leather chairs are presented in a dramatic dining-table scene by the designer, evoking Judgment Day. He imagines himself seated at a large table, ready for an eternal dinner. Seven black leather chairs with wild faces gather around the table, with silver cutlery and white porcelain plates placed beneath white tulips on a white tablecloth with white bows.
Inspired by the Gothic
The Monster Collection continues to grow. Bar stools in two heights and another piece were announced for 2011, without the strange monster face. Wanders’ own website also shows a Monster cushion.
