Chile: Casa Tunquen of MasFernandez Architects

Tunquén House, designed by Mas Fernandez Arquitectos, is a second home on the Chilean coast, south of Valparaíso, facing the Pacific Ocean.

The project is guided by clarity, simplicity, and honesty. Set among coastal vegetation on a cliff site, the house works like a pavilion, resting on a 3.50 x 3.50 metre structural grid.

The terrace, the exposed structure, and a small central space with a hot tub become part of the house’s exterior expression. Inside, white-washed pine walls and locally available timber keep the construction direct and economical.

The exterior is finished in graphite grey, reducing maintenance over time and reinforcing the idea of the house as a quiet container for views, shelter, and retreat.

It is designed for visitors who want to withdraw from the city and spend time looking calmly toward the sea.
