This contemporary beach house in Coolum Beach, Queensland, Australia, was designed by Aboda Design Group for a high, steep site. Known as Coolum Bays Beach House, the residence combines crisp geometry, strong contrasts, and dramatic color with comfortable living spaces arranged over two levels.

The beach house was designed as a modern, sustainable home. Passive cooling, LED lighting, and deep roof overhangs help reduce energy use while keeping the interior comfortable. Rainwater is collected from the roof and directed to a tank beneath the pool deck.
High-quality coastal architecture

Comfort and sustainability are central to both the facade and the interior. Durable materials suited to the coastal climate include steel, concrete, aluminum, fiber cement, and timber. A cantilevered concrete structure helps integrate the pool, while the roof projects outward like a protective umbrella without blocking the broad window walls. Fiber-cement cladding continues inside as an accent, and warm cedar creates a visual connection between the house, the landscape, and the sea. Aboda Design Group created a refined yet informal home with a distinctly dramatic character.

The living area offers simple comfort. Glass walls bring natural light deep into the home, and understated seating keeps the room relaxed. Because the interior steps with the slope of the site, the lower level is used efficiently and many rooms enjoy wide views.
