Today there is a lot of discussion and debate about solar energy in the home. We take a closer look at the subject and present a concept that may point to the future of solar energy.

Solar energy in the house – types and functions

Photovoltaic systems are already widely used. Everyone knows solar garden lighting, and even small household appliances are increasingly powered by solar installations. Anyone who wants to live in a more environmentally friendly way can choose solar energy in the home. Solar thermal systems can be mounted on the roof to support heating. A home can use a water-heating system, or combine water heating and space heating in one setup. Solar energy is used to produce hot water, which can then support the heating system. In principle, these systems do not have to be included in the original house plan and can also be retrofitted. If you are planning to build a house, it is always advisable to consult a solar installation company in advance.

Advantages and disadvantages of solar energy at home

Two major drawbacks speak against solar energy in the home: the first is cost: the investment may pay for itself over about 10 years, but the upfront expense is still high. The second drawback is the limited amount of usable sunlight. The energy supplied by solar panels is closely tied to solar radiation. Unlike in Spain or Portugal, this radiation is more limited in Germany. It is always recommended to get detailed information before installation. The benefits of home solar systems include greater independence from electricity and oil prices. After some time, the investment can become profitable, and it may even be possible to sell electricity. Solar energy is environmentally friendly and helps protect the environment.
