03/04/2014 – The design of the villa in Manerba del Garda by the studio C+ Farinaro Lepore Architectsis inspired by the beauty of the place and approaches it with discretion and respect.
The designers describe the house as wrapped in greenery, silent and looking toward the lake. They wanted not to lose the sense of awe felt on site, where lawns and olive groves frame the lake in the background. The property is located halfway along the coast, near the gravel beaches around the lake and separated from them by a steep slope covered with dense vegetation.
The villa belongs to an architectural intervention consisting of two single-family villas, not yet both completed, which use earth movement and changes in level to achieve excellent privacy while remaining part of a unified design of volumes and greenery. The houses have reinforced-concrete structures, concrete and stone wall cladding, and window openings in stone frames, defined on the interior by brown-painted steel plate surfaces.
The ground-floor rooms are designed to have large gardens, while upstairs all rooms have views of the lake through large windows that frame the breathtaking scenery. The living rooms are almost fully glazed to emphasize the continuity between inside and outside, allowing the views and garden to be enjoyed even during the cold months.
The volumes of the two houses are arranged partly in relation to the lake boundary, where the pools are aligned, and partly parallel to the property line, generating a rotation between the built volumes and the outdoor rooms. This also creates a hinge-like connection between house and exterior. To minimize visual impact on the natural environment, part of the roof was treated as green roof gardens.
The swimming pool is an infinity pool, consisting of a long swimming basin and a shallow relaxation area that seems to flow directly into the waters of the lake, extending the view endlessly. Because nature is so powerfully present both outside and inside the house, the interior design is very subtle, with colors in shades of gray, warm and cool tones aligned with those of the natural stones.
