"Lake House 2" is a modern house on the lake by Seattle-based McClellan Architects. It features an elevator, a grassy green roof, and a spacious terrace overlooking the water. The house sits on a steep waterfront site, with driveway access limited to the upper edge of the property. The client wanted an exposed steel structure and a design that fully engages the waterfront landscape.

The house has an open floor plan that creates harmony between interior and exterior spaces. From the living room and kitchen, it is easy to move outside and enjoy the surrounding nature. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in light and sun while opening wide views over the water. A dynamic tension between craft and landscape appears throughout the house, with stacked building volumes, exposed beams, and steel columns defining the rhythm of the architecture.
Modern Lake House
Craftsmanship and materials such as stone, plaster, wood, and steel are essential to the natural feeling of the home. A blackened-steel stair with Scarpa-inspired details is set against a Venetian plaster wall, where powerful LED lighting makes the surface glow in the evening. An elevator is discreetly integrated at the rear of the house, connecting the garage, the mother-in-law apartment, and the main living floors. The garage also includes solar panels for the client's electric car. The upper apartment opens to another terrace on the flat green roof, with the same expansive view.
