The Danish workshop PP Møbler reintroduced Hans J. Wegner’s Tub Chair, a rare prototype originally conceived in 1954. To mark the 100th anniversary of Wegner’s birth, the company put the chair into production and presented it at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2014.
Wegner was a pioneer in experimenting with techniques and materials, and the Tub Chair is a strong example of that spirit. The design combines molded plywood, upholstery, traditional woodworking, and a metal adjustment mechanism that allows the backrest to be set at different angles. Its complexity shows Wegner’s willingness to push furniture construction beyond the limits of its time.

For Wegner’s centenary, PP Møbler highlighted the Tub Chair as an important example of the designer’s experimental work. Once too technically complex for rational production, the chair became possible decades later thanks to advances in molded veneer and manufacturing techniques.
