The Geometric Painting By Deborah Zlotsky

I like the striped direction and overlapping forms in the work of Deborah Zlotsky, one of the artists selected by the American gallery Markel Fine Arts.

Normally, geometric artists tend to search for perfection down to the smallest detail. Deborah Zlotsky’s work is softer and more fluid, almost playful. Her pieces seem like frescoes layered on top of one another, and in fact that is exactly how these colors are created: by layering shapes and profiles until the artist reaches the ideal configuration. It is a curious technique, but an effective one.

And then there are her black-and-white drawings, almost ghostly: alien shapes, bodily forms, natural references, and amorphous structures. Quite different from the paintings, but equally fascinating.
