A rooftop pool gives a modern house an exclusive and exciting look. This additional outdoor space can become a private oasis for residents. In its projects, NL Architects, a Dutch architecture firm based in Amsterdam, explores the potential of contemporary architecture. The "Extravaganza" series offers new architectural solutions for integrating a swimming pool into a building. The office developed three virtual projects with the rooftop pool as the central and dominant design element for a beach house in Florida. These striking designs set a new benchmark for planning and implementing pools and offer plenty of inspiration.
Design 1: beach house with kidney-shaped rooftop pool, "Blob Drop"
An important point in the office’s work is the combination of art and architecture. Architecture is deliberately staged as a usable object. In the "Blob Drop" project, the architects offer a natural contrast to a hectic lifestyle. Flowing forms define interconnected living areas that are comfortable and sheltered. Transparent fronts provide greater openness and a closer connection to nature. Lush planting and shade trees surround the house on the futuristic beach. Concave structures put the residence in constant motion. The building, landscape, and environment merge into one form.

A huge pool is set into a simple rectangular building. This creates unusual room types below; the negative space inside the house is boldly enclosed with full-height frameless glass.

Design 3: Sawa House
The rectangular plan of the lower half of the building is developed through terraced levels. Water flows in an endless sequence of small waterfalls. The pool deck is harmoniously integrated into the existing structure. The Beach House is transformed into an adventurous building.
