From the street, the small house with wooden ceiling seems simple, but once inside, the building reveals its quiet beauty. The intriguing ceiling design creates an exciting play of light and shadow.
Modern house with wooden ceiling – minimalist perfection

The building is the new home of a young family in Toyokawa, Japan. The architects looked not only to homes but also to the minimalist traditional Japanese buildings in the surrounding area. The two-story house with wooden ceiling stands on a challenging site, where high neighboring buildings cast shadows over it. The architects therefore focused on maximizing sunlight inside. An innovative ceiling design allows warm sunlight to enter the rooms. Roof windows were installed along the edge of the roof, and gently sloping interior walls distribute the light evenly throughout the house. The lounge benefits most: the kitchen, living room, and study are flooded with light. The bedrooms are located in small separate boxes whose sturdy construction ensures privacy and protects the residents' private area. A large hallway provides enough space between the individual white boxes.

The house with wooden ceiling enchants with its futuristic design. Living spaces are arranged on different levels. The warm color of the wooden ceiling and flooring creates a visual link between the various areas. The furniture, also including wood, is modest but very functional. Thanks to the architects' creativity, the residents can enjoy a practical home bathed in light.
