The Italian design studio Disguincio & Co has designed a concept for a fiberglass spiral staircase. The spiral staircase consists of a repeated sequence of interlocking steps. Each tread is soft and relatively weak on its own, but when all the steps are put together, the structure becomes stable and robust. Each element has a deep relationship with the others, and this interdependence creates a stable system. Behind the simplicity of each step, the whole structure gains an expressive look: a visually appealing synthesis of functionality and elegance. The designer is Mirk Daneluzzo, and Disguincio & Co is based in Pordenone, Italy.

According to the concept, the spiral staircase is to be made of glass-fiber-reinforced carbon fiber, although Daneluzzo hopes to use other materials in the future. The studio is looking for environmentally respectful solutions, such as a composite made from natural fibers and an organic polymer matrix. Currently, there is no full-scale prototype of the spiral staircase, only a small model. The designers are negotiating with several manufacturers.
