We present a modern concept: this modern wooden house is designed to withstand flooding. The building is a project by H & P Architects from Vietnam.
Wooden House – Innovative Design Protects Against Flooding
Vietnam is a country that has suffered repeatedly from severe flooding in recent years. Regional development has been badly affected, and many people need new homes. The architecture firm H & P developed a project that could help solve these problems. The wooden house is a modular structure, 3.3 meters wide and 6.6 meters long. The building is made entirely of bamboo, a durable local material. The individual components are screwed together, and the house can withstand water levels up to 1.5 meters. Tests are underway to see whether the structure can withstand even higher water levels.

The house is built with natural materials such as bamboo panels and pressed boards, and the roof is covered with coconut leaves. The prefabricated elements are assembled on site, so a house can be completed in less than 25 days. This modern architecture is not only practical but also inexpensive. Costs should fall further with mass production, although the final price is not yet certain.
The interior of the wooden house is kept simple. A small living room can serve several functions and may be used as a home, school, hospital, or community center.
