Okitu House is an impressive building that combines simple construction, a clear plan, a luxurious interior and exterior spaces open to the surrounding landscape. Architect Peter Bossley received NZIA recognition for this local masterpiece, including awards in 2005 and 2006.

The coastal house, located at Tatapouri Point in New Zealand, offers ocean views. From the Okitu home, you can see the soft curves of the hills and enjoy the dramatic landscape. Low vegetation grows across the site, where green and yellow are the primary colors. The house also has small courtyard areas with a garden and palm trees near the pool at the back.

The Okitu house is a single-level home that stretches horizontally along the coast. The project responds to the client’s need for a seaside cottage that could accommodate two people as well as guests. The long T-shaped plan was a fitting solution. It has two components: one for guests and the other for the owner.

The living area is generously planned with a kitchen, dining room and lounge. It opens onto the large pool at the back. The master bedroom is directly connected to the living space, along with another smaller room. The remaining areas are arranged along the longest part of the building and accessed by a corridor. This section can be closed when there are no visitors in the coastal house.
Stunning views through the glass facade create an ideal setting for the minimalist interior design. The rooms are defined by solid structural elements. The walls and ceiling are painted white, while the floors and furniture surfaces are made of polished wood.
