A glass house of stone and concrete opens to the idyllic landscape of La Quinta, California. The new building is a project by XTEN Architecture. Its sophisticated concept protects residents from the extreme desert conditions: solid concrete panels and deep overhangs shield the interiors from the sun, while high-quality glass facades help protect the house from strong northern winds.
Glass and stone house: modern architecture with a reflective concept
The glass and stone house consists of three volumes built from concrete, glass, and natural stone. The U-shaped building faces south, with the three structures arranged around a small garden. The richly glazed facade on the upper level reveals spectacular views of the surroundings, while a modern system of sliding doors on the ground floor creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. A sheltered patio screens the garden from view, and comfortable loungers invite residents to relax by the pool on hot summer days.

This glass, concrete, and stone house also fascinates with an eclectic interior. A large hall occupies the main floor. The minimalist kitchen, with handleless gray doors, sits near crystal chandeliers in the dining area, while a comfortable seating group with two orange chairs adds a touch of 1970s style. A neutral palette defines the interior: sand-colored upholstery and natural stone soften the rooms, while gray kitchen finishes add a modern note. White flooring creates a visual connection between the different zones. The upper level contains the master bedroom and bathroom, both decorated in a minimalist style. The architects kept decoration restrained so the surrounding landscape could take the lead.
