These designer chandeliers are an impressive example of the creative overlap between architecture and art. The unusual light installation was created by Cristina Parreno Architecture with support from MIT Architecture.
The installation was designed for the ARCOmadrid art fair.
Cristina Parreno's chandelier – art expressed through light installation

The art installation consists of many paper chandelier elements covering the ceiling in a wave-like formation. The chandeliers are tubular, making it difficult to draw a line between art installation and architectural project. The cylinders are made of cardboard, and the elements are fixed to the ceiling with cords of different lengths so the overall structure forms an undulating surface.
Paper chandelier design – a blend of function and art

The entire system is essentially a large structure with a lighting function. Paper chandelier design is especially artistic, but also functional. The lights are mounted above the cardboard tubes, allowing light to wash across the elements. In this way, a magnificent play of light emerges. The installation is simple at heart: geometric shapes are arranged so that the full lighting effect can unfold.
