Commissioned for a reputable London silversmith and QC, Fraher Architects renovated and extended this house. The difficult site had to be planned carefully to make better use of the outdoor spaces. With the new extension, the home gained not only more room but also a much stronger connection to garden life.
Jewel Box by Fraher Architects – an elegant home extension
The project had the difficult task of bringing new life to a historic building in the Colebrook Row conservation area while respecting its architectural character. The contemporary house extension was inserted smoothly into the existing context. Three jewel-inspired volumes were added to the composition. Sustainable Scottish larch cladding, combined with strong insulation, gives the extension warmth and a modern twist.
This building is full of charm
The jewel-box volumes with sloping roofs also have an ecological aspect: rainwater is directed through a specially designed drain into a tank for reuse. Green roofs provide additional habitat for wild plant species.

The project opens views toward the outdoors while preserving the home’s character. Alongside the extension, the existing house was renewed with its unique atmosphere intact. Wood and concrete define the overall spatial effect inside and out, while designer furniture and sculptural lighting add visual tension.
