This sculptural design bookcase, the Deer Shelf, was created by sisters Bette and Cilla Eklund and introduced at Maison & Objet 2013. The founders of the Finnish design company BEdesign drew inspiration from deer in the northern forest, translating the animal’s head and antlers into a geometric storage piece. With its airy shelves and natural material, the design feels simple, modern and expressive.

The shelf can hold books, magazines and small decorative objects. Its freestanding form represents a deer head in a strongly geometric way, turning storage into a visual statement. The oak version also reinforces the connection with nature and woodland imagery. Compact but eye-catching, it can work in a living room, office, library corner or children’s room.

The original design has appeared in wood and metal versions, with the metal alternative shown in black and white. The design bookcase was made to order, and the oak version was listed at EUR 2,720 at the time. Bette and Cilla Eklund offer a fresh, sculptural interpretation of classic animal-inspired decor.
