This seat design was created as part of a social experiment. The Bottle Bench project by artist Maarten Pauwelyn brings people together. This outdoor seating is perfect for relaxed days with friends in the garden. The bench is called “Bottle Bench” because it has five seats fixed to a central point. The design resembles the bottom of a plastic bottle. Bottle Bench looks like the kind of furniture you might find on a playground, but it is definitely designed for adults and has no rotating function like a carousel.

When people use Bottle Bench, they do more than share a bench with others. They sit next to and across from one another in close proximity, creating an intimate atmosphere for good conversation between people who might otherwise never speak. In this arrangement it is difficult to ignore each other, and conversation becomes easier simply because of the way the seats are arranged. The seat design provides comfortable backrests and plenty of legroom, so people can sit comfortably and feel at ease.
Seat design offers comfort and great entertainment

Bottle Bench is made from recyclable polyester, and each seat can be stacked for easy packing and transport. The central point can serve as a drink holder or, as shown in one picture, even a place to elevate the legs and relax. The bench offers space for five people and has a beautiful flower-like shape. It works well in public and private spaces. There is no word on whether Bottle Bench will receive a commercial version.
