Camping tent – instructions and important notes
If you are just getting interested in camping and have recently purchased a new tent, you first need to get familiar with it. Read the instruction manual and follow the steps. Practice putting the tent up and taking it down several times in the garden before heading to the campsite. Tents usually come with poles of different sizes. Mark poles of the same length with color so you can orient yourself more easily on site. Test whether the tent is watertight by spraying the seams with water. Never pitch your tent near a fire, because there is always a risk of burning the fabric.
Setting up a camping tent – choose the right site
Choose the right site: look for a dry place and avoid low ground, which can flood when it rains. Pitch the tent on higher ground and make sure the location offers protection from strong sun. Avoid setting the tent on a slope; if you sleep with your head downhill, you may wake up with a headache. Before pitching the tent, remove stones and other sharp objects that could tear the fabric. If you need to set it up in windy conditions, ask friends for help. Otherwise the tent may blow away, leaving you to spend hours retrieving it. The tent should be stretched as tightly as possible so the fabric does not sag in the rain.
