22/01/2016 – Same is the name of a building renovation project in Altamura (BA) signed by DD-loop. The project consists of an external intervention called Soft Engineeringand an internal intervention.
The designers describe their project as follows:
The city and its parts are connected to one another and can be read as a sound band, with buildings acting as notes played by different instruments at the same time. A melody is created from what the Romans called the Genius Loci, the spirit of the place, as if it were the conductor of the city’s orchestra. Historic centers tend to have clear, harmonious melodies, while the outer layers of the city often feel suspended, without a conductor able to integrate architecture in space and time. Notes follow one another without a score, unbalanced, creating feelings of helplessness and indifference.
Soft Engineering aims to bring awareness to the population about contemporary time and its critical state of health. It creates a new key in the soundtrack of the urban environment, recovering a deep note lost in time, reinventing local instruments and imagining how a future sound of the Genius Loci might compose music once again.
After decades of neglect, the Genius Loci of the region finally rises from sleep. The facade begins to vibrate through a three-dimensional model, creating a surface that is always in motion. Red represents the pride of the spirit. It has the longest wavelength in the visible spectrum and can be associated with longer sound waves, perceived not in the ears but in the chest. The spirit touches the viewer’s basic instincts through a non-linear, multifaceted perception issued from the walls, transforming a residential building into a sculpture. Feelings that were dormant in the viewer’s subconscious awaken and intensify, like a mirror of the self.
