Located on a hill near Lisbon, Portugal, this house draws attention with a warm copper-colored facade. Portuguese studio Atelier Data designed the modern home with a rural touch.
House in Portugal – an attractive facade made with recycled materials
At first glance, the front of the house has a rustic character, but behind the recycled timber screen is a modern structure of concrete and glass. To help the minimalist building settle into the rural landscape, the architects used a copper-toned exterior finish. The family home is also clad with cork, a material valued for its thermal insulation.
A fence shields the front garden from neighboring houses and strong winds. The west side faces the road, while the east facade opens toward the landscape; from its hillside position, the house looks out over the nearby town.

The house in Portugal offers generous living space for its residents. The ground floor includes an indoor pool. The large living room, kitchen, and dining area occupy the upper level, where they overlook the city. Extensive glazing brings in plenty of daylight and softens the exposed concrete floors and walls. Wooden furniture gives the interior a rustic touch and creates a warm atmosphere. Bedrooms and bathrooms are placed on the third floor.
