YAK01 is a modern residential house by Ayutt and Associates Design, located on Yen Akat Road in Bangkok, Thailand. Designed for a small modern family, the house occupies a 560-square-meter private plot and offers about 500 square meters of usable interior space. Although the site is limited, the clients wanted a modern house with sun and rain protection as well as a generous green area for relaxation. After extensive planning, the architect proposed cantilevering almost half of the house over the ground floor. The L-shaped layout maximizes usable space and preserves more room for greenery.

The bathrooms, service areas, storage, and stairs act as buffer zones that absorb heat and give the north-facing living areas more privacy. Most of the glass walls face north, bringing in natural light while avoiding Thailand’s strongest sun. About half of the site remains open for gardens that are visible from many angles. The swimming pool runs parallel to the building and helps draw cooler air into the house.
Elegant Modern Home Decor
The ground floor follows the logic of a traditional Thai house, with a small courtyard that works as an entrance foyer before opening to the main living area. The staircase is enclosed in a glass box and seems to hover above this indoor garden. The large living room connects directly to the terrace and pool through tall folding windows. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls allow light to flood the interior and emphasize the modern white furnishings.
Natural light enters the house
The master bedroom upstairs cantilevers over the full length of the foyer below. Designed as a cube, it shades the residence in a way that recalls traditional Thai houses. A custom vertical aluminum-strip feature on the wall gives the upper volume a crisp, contemporary character.
