Furnishing a small apartment: give old furniture a new look

The young apartment owner Megan recently moved into her first small apartment. With little money available, she looked for creative furnishing ideas. Instead of buying new furniture, she decided to showcase old pieces from her grandparents. They were reupholstered and painted. A white chest of drawers that her mother found at a flea market was refreshed with a mirror and now serves as a room divider in the home. An old suitcase is used as a side table in the living room. In the kitchen, Megan also had an inexpensive MDF counter made. A small plastic stool was painted gold, creating a cozy dining corner.

At the flea market, the young owner also found several decorative treasures: ceramic birds for the living room and a small crystal chandelier for the bedroom. Floral and leaf patterns refresh the cool gray couch. Family photos and favorite pictures were hung on the wall. Favorite books were placed in the trunk used as a coffee table. In the bedroom, Megan built a headboard from recycled wood. She deliberately omitted curtains in the living room; the large windows make the small apartment feel open and bright.
