15/09/2016 – In Porto, the main challenge for depA & Margarida Leitão was to preserve the personality of Casa do Rosário without resorting to a radical intervention.
The house stands in the city’s Arts District, one of Porto’s most central and dynamic areas. Like many nineteenth-century buildings in the city, it had changed over time: once a single-family house, it was later divided into several homes across three floors.
The renovation aimed to protect the domestic atmosphere already present in the building while adapting it for contemporary use. Spaces were optimized, rooms became comfortable and flexible, a large wooden staircase organizes circulation, and neutral colors and custom-made furniture give the interiors a calm but personal character.
The result is a creative, familiar place that can host two families, friends and guests. Today the residence reflects the cosmopolitan spirit of Porto, bringing together a family that had lived in the building for more than sixty years and architects who fell in love with the city.
