Picture House by architects Fabio and Alessio Barilari is built around a dialogue between the house and the landscape. Outside, the building blends with the rural setting through natural colours and a quieter material language; inside, the space becomes more abstract.
The landscape enters the interior like a sequence of framed images. Each functional area has its own view, and the windows work almost like pictures placed on the walls.
The staircase gives the house its internal movement. It extends the living area, inviting people to climb, sit, pause, and discover the next view. With large and small steps, landings, ramps, and a two-person chaise longue, it becomes more than circulation.
The same material continues across the steps, seats, interior floor, and terrace, creating a strong continuity between ground floor, mezzanine, first floor, and the outdoors.
The name Picture House recalls the old English term for a cinema: moving images, landscapes, and changing seasonal colours are drawn from outside and projected into daily life.
