Treehouse

A family weekend retreat in northern Germany takes shape as a wooden succession of spaces. The tree house was designed by Djuren as a space for the tree. Between the oaks stands an egg-shaped tree house with an elliptical facade and creamy white window surfaces. The interior is defined by a long, comfortable sofa covered in gray wool felt. Large windows beside the seating platform offer views of the forest and landscaped garden.

The vertical load of the treehouse Djuren is supported by steel poles and presented as a static system. The result is sustainable architecture standing between two oak trees.

The Djuren tree house stands at a height of 5.6 meters and is reached by two stairways separated by a lower terrace in the oak garden. The second bridge leads to the raised wooden entrance door.

Modern and traditional at the same time

The creamy white egg-shaped exterior contrasts beautifully with the wooden bridges, which recall the structure of a ship.

The support structure

The small lodging is supported by four steel poles and stabilized by two oaks. Both trees carry the weight of the terraces, while belts and steel cables support the trunk-side structure.

The creamy white eggshell form contrasts with the terraces. Native oak and a zinc sheet-metal roof define the exterior, and a round window in the facade opens another view toward nature. Both terraces are connected directly to the tree with thick rope cables and additional steel.

The interior is made up of lounging and sitting areas covered with soft wool felt. An arched window is installed at the front of the tree house.

Doors and windows

The Djuren tree house lets visitors enjoy the outdoors through a series of doors and windows. The elliptical window shape helps define the shell of the structure.
