We present a modern sustainable concept from the United States: this house with solar panels on the roof served as a home for David Hertz and his family. The architecture combines contemporary design with environmental systems, creating a modern and resource-conscious residence.
Modern house with solar panels in California – a sustainable lifestyle concept
The house with the solar system is located in sunny California, an ideal setting for rooftop solar panels. The roof area and flat surfaces made installation practical. According to project information, more than 20 photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof, producing a large share of the home’s electricity needs. Additional solar collectors provide hot water for domestic use, radiant heating and the pool.
The residence, also known as the McKinley or Californication House, was developed over time in several phases. David Hertz first designed two volumes connected by a bridge, and later additional structures were added around a courtyard. Many of the materials were selected for sustainability, including FSC-certified woods and Syndecrete ®, a recycled-content concrete material associated with Hertz’s studio.
