You probably learned in physics class that when a beam of light hits a prism, it is split into its color spectrum. This design piece borrows the concept of light refraction and turns it into beautiful optical illusions. The design glass coffee table was created by Maurie Novak of MN Design in Melbourne, Australia. The "PRISM table" cannot actually break light rays, since it is made not of crystal but of glass and stainless steel. So how does it work? A third material is added to mimic the idea of colored light beams.

While light rays cannot be held or touched, these "rays" are made from colored elastic. They are attached to the stainless-steel frame and create shifting patterns. The visualization of the concept is as brilliant as the finished result. The designer plays with the viewer's perception and creates sharp 3D effects.

This design glass coffee table tells a story. From every point of view it looks different, revealing a new combination of colors and patterns. The design is charming in its simplicity: woven and twisted elastic bands create a dynamic geometric composition. The mix of colors across the planes gives an impression of constant movement. This is not a table meant for collecting vases and souvenirs. Thanks to the glass plates, the user can see the colorful web from every side. The piece is currently offered for sale.
