22/12/2017 – noa* revisited the hotel Vita Vital Hotel Valentinerhofin Castelrotto (BZ), on the way to Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm, 1,200 meters above sea level.
The hotel was renovated after a previous partial demolition and reconstruction carried out in 2011, with the aim of keeping the original concept in mind and maintaining consistency with nature and with the identity of the building itself.
The 2011 interventionadded 14 suites and a new wellness area. This second intervention, oriented toward the Sciliar mountain massif, adds rooms in the southeast area and a central volume with a direct connection to the existing building.
The connection with nature is a concept reinforced by the new buildings, views, celebrations and scenery of the surrounding Dolomites.
Stefan Rier of noa* explains that the primary objective was to investigate views toward the Sciliar massif. Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm takes the role of a silent actor on stage, while the hotel and its guests become a grandstand full of spectators.
The new main building contains the reception, bar, welcome area and seven rooms and suites. The wooden facade is strongly inspired by local barns. Irregular spaces between the facade beams filter daylight into the interior. The full-height glazing around the hotel lobby and the three rooms in the new central volume focuses on the dialogue between inside and outside, between the hotel and the landscape.
The nine suites are located to the southeast on the ground floor and are integrated with the natural topography. To strengthen the construction tradition of Castelrotto, wooden elements reminiscent of Heuharpfen, or hay racks, were used in the building.
The theater of calm offered by the Schlern creates the house mountain for guests, forming two opposing poles: the hotel lobby becomes the stage that immerses guests in another world.
