04/06/2018 – Turin is an elegant, reserved, and slightly mysterious city, where contemporary architecture coexists with valuable historic fabric and echoes of Savoy austerity. Memories of some of Italy’s most distinctive architectural voices, from Carlo Mollino to Gabetti and Isola, still hover over its streets.
Last year Turin stood out for the high number of private residents who opened their homes: this year, many citizens have again accepted the call to Open House. Sharing one’s own space is becoming increasingly important. More than 140 homes opened their doors, including some of the city’s most beautiful historic and contemporary residences. The itinerary ranges from futuristic lofts and Art Nouveau villas to elegant penthouses.
According to the figures, among the 42 cities where Open House is held, the Piedmontese capital has the highest percentage of private homes. We have selected a few of them.
Already a protagonist in 2017, this year "The Number 6", at Via Alfieri 6, also opened one of its luxury apartments on the top floor. A transparent parallelepiped encloses the kitchen island at the center of the living area, while green terraces on several levels offer views of the art installations.

Casa Y, in Pino Torinese, is a concrete-and-glass villa set in the woods and celebrated by The Wall Street Journal as one of the most beautiful residences in the world. Visitors could tour it with the designer, architect Luca Maria Gandini.

Then there is Casa Pazza, at Via Massena 84 H, which even contains a climbing wall. The name suits its nature: this former physical-therapy institute has been transformed into an urban villa. It contains a bit of everything: concrete and marble, wood and iron, Ikea and Le Corbusier. Its three and a half levels create an unusual place in the city, full of unexpected corners, and the design reflects the personality of its owner.

In the San Salvario district there are Casa Fenoglio, Casa Madama, Casa Morrissey and Casa Phoenix, all with contemporary interior design.
Between the city center and Crocetta are Suite Matteotti, with its classic interiors, the irregular rooms of Casa Verticale, and the carefully curated IL32 on Via Mazzini.

Casa G, on the tower in Piazza Solferino, and the first-hill apartment Tre Viste offer two beautiful views of the city. The panorama is also remarkable from Casa con Vista over Porta Palazzo and from Loft Aurora, an example of a converted production space. Casa Antonelli lightly reinvents the rooms Alessandro Antonelli designed for himself.
Il Salotto Buono, which until a few months ago was a workshop, is now a home-like space for private events in the heart of Turin.
Another special place is the Giardino Segreto, where design and nature merge in a beautiful building at the foot of the Cappuccini hill.

Two of the buildings most loved by the public last year are also back. Casa Hollywood and 25 Verde are among the most important examples of contemporary architecture in central Turin. Alongside them are some surprising homes hidden inside city blocks: Casa Okumé in Crocetta and La Casa tra gli Alberi in San Salvario.
