Decorative ornamental lawns should usually be no higher than 4-5 cm, while sports and play lawns do well at around 4.5 cm. How often you mow is closely related to the weather. When summer is hot, you can mow less often; when it rains frequently, the grass grows faster. In that case, regular mowing helps prevent moss and thatch from forming.
Mowing and Scarifying – Starting in April
In April, you can mow the lawn and scarify it. Wait until the grass is dry, because wet soil and wet grass make the work much harder. First collect larger leaves and debris by hand and add them to the compost. Then use a scarifier to loosen the turf. Do not apply too much pressure, or you may damage the grass roots. After raking the lawn, you can fertilize it as well.
