During the renovation, the original flat roof was partially demolished to create space for an attic addition. The project was designed by SKEW Collaborative. The triangular form of the dormer roof gives the apartment a strong structure and precise geometric lines. The bedroom and study now occupy the attic rather than the main floor, allowing an open kitchen and enlarged living area below. The former four-wall layout is gone. The unique design of this modern apartment with mezzanine allows natural light to flood the room during the day. Artificial light comes from concealed indirect lighting.
Loft: design and materials shape the modern look
The staircase is defined by more triangular elements, giving the home a distinctive character. The project focuses on functional improvements to the apartment. The roof was also upgraded with access to a small roof terrace. The interior can be passively cooled as hot air rises and escapes through the new attic windows. The interior design of this apartment with attic is kept deliberately pure and simple. Industrial-style steel windows, wooden floors, and white plastered walls form the apartment's modern look.
