DEGW for Microsoft: new ways of living the office

16/08/2016 – Microsoft-Italia has chosen, DEGW , to the new office in the centre of Milan , opened in February of 2017, in a building designed by Herzog & De Meuron, in the name of the group Feltrinelli in the zone of Porta Volta.
DEGW is working on the creation of spaces that are in the name of flexibility, depending on the company’s values: openness, transparency, flexibility, energy, dynamism and innovation.

Alexander Adam – Partner L22 and Director of DEGW – discuss with great enthusiasm the collaboration with Microsoft: “For DEGW, the coherence of the development, our path of innovation and technology, the way has begun in Italy in 1985, in collaboration with IBM. DEGW form new ways of living, office, design environments oriented to work on the new type, on the basis of the values of the mobility, informality and sharing. But in this case, the duration of the work is an understatement. The headquarters of Microsoft, in fact, is a place of encounter and exchange between the employees of the company and the customer. Represents the place where the virtual meeting and is real. A Microsoft -, designed by DEGW, is a simple office, is a dynamic environment that is transparent, visible and open to the city, a reference point for the company, its customers and partners”.

Cristiana Boienti, senior architect at DEGW, confirmed: “The space is built, versatile, comfortable, casual and varied, with natural colors and accented with lights, and custom unique furniture for you. We focused mainly on the intrinsic importance of the human dimension, the creation of a better work environment, intelligent and flexible”.

So you create a harmony and a balance between the interior and the architecture Of Herzog & de Meuron, DEGW is the game from the construction of the building, which dates back to the concept of batch-lombard Gothic style: long and narrow, and the shape of the cover parallel to the disc (looks like a kind of Gothic Cathedral), where it is located on the top floor of a three times the height. The building was established to ensure compliance with the historic Porta Tenaglia (door opening), on the border between the old and the new business district of Garibaldi, on the route of the former Spanish walls. The concept is simple, innovative and user-friendly that DEGW apply in the context of the project, the connection between the historic heritage of the city and of technological innovation in the world of Microsoft was born.

Smart work
The project is part of a path that Microsoft has 10 years old, in the name of a “New world of work”, an approach that the dynamics of professionals, the greater flexibility for your employees in smart work, the use of the rooms, functional and innovative technologies to maximize productivity and collaboration. The well-being and the reconciliation of professional and private needs are the pivotal point around which the management of the time and the manner of grouping how people work, and where the flexibility is an important instrument for the achievement of the objectives. In this process, Microsoft has been working for the innovative use of Council DEGW, to the creation of spaces, indoor areas, are able, at best, the values of the Microsoft represent and adapt them to new ways to meet and work in a pleasant environment and efficiently.

Interior Design
DEGW designs the 7 500 square metres of office from Microsoft, according to a organization, the free and smooth. Work areas in the open space, the non-provision of a dedicated work-station: each person moves in space in dependence on the different activities you are taking. The meeting and community rooms are designed to provide the communication between team-mates. The work area was developed by DEGW, thanks to the synergy between the historic culture of the city of Milan and the approach of the chip and the Microsoft technology, in a dialogue between the past and the future. This concept manifests itself in spatial and interior design, designed ad hoc by DEGW, more and more like a home environment, not on a working day. DEGW design, interior architecture, while now the highest priority, the taste of Italian design, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere, with natural materials such as wood. Structural elements made of wood, integrated in the room are reminiscent of the terraces and the “terrace”, the typical Italian area, where the external environment of the garden enters the room. On the ground floor, at the entrance to be inserted, the beds with natural elements such as plants and flowers. On the operational plans, the stations are not awarded in the open space differ in form and aesthetics, according to the function, the zones, the cooperation and the areas that create more prone to a work area, without monotony, stimulating creativity. Another essential element in the development of the social hub, tailor-made and three themes: sports, nature, and the city is dedicated. The idea was to create rooms, custom finishes and custom furniture that fit the chosen theme.

Innovation
The technology allows the development of working models for more flexibility thanks to the possibility, at any place and at any time.
