Mostra Black is an important Brazilian design event that presents projects by professionals in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, product design, and art. In 2012, São Paulo-based architect Guilherme Torres was invited to take part in the exhibition. We present the project he developed for the event, a space that reflects the current lifestyle trend toward eclectic living while showing his talent for bold, memorable design.
Eclectic Interior Design by Guilherme Torres
The project was built in the patio of a modernist house in Alto de Pinheiros, São Paulo, and refers to the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe, one of Torres's favorite works. The concept, titled “Mister Black”, imagines an art-loving young collector, a music enthusiast, and a citizen of the world who enjoys receiving guests. In the 80m2 living space, Torres created an elegant, expressive setting where art, decor, and different styles merge.
A Blend of Colors, Styles, and Materials
The versatility of the interior design revolves around the fictional resident and his identity. At the entrance, a woven metal curtain invites visitors to look inside. White Paraná marble and concrete define the architecture. In the center of the room, Torres placed the leather Otto sofa of his own design, along with the Pil sofa, a mid-century-inspired piece, and a coffee table covered in vintage wallpaper. The eclectic decor is completed by a rococo table used as a DJ booth, a retro screen by Lúcio Costa, and a bar cart by Sérgio Zalszupin.
