In this Russian wooden house, tradition and modernity, nature and culture meet. Designed by architects Nicolas Belousov, Mishael, and Elena Masteropulo and built in 2013 in the traditional architectural style the symmetrically shaped cabin reminds popular Russian wooden houses, but with a new type of glass facade. The traditional carved ornaments are replaced by a simple unornamented facade. The villa is located in the residential area of Istra in the Moscow region, on a 780 m2 area.
Relax in a wooden house in Russia
Massive wood dominates in the traditional Russian wooden house. It’s very popular due to its features. Massive wood helps to maintain the microclimate in a house, and it is environmentally friendly and durable. However, the Russian log cabins have many faces. They are resistant to heat, moisture proof and beautiful. Previously, the outer wooden sheathing was used for heat protection. Today, it is rather an element of aesthetic design. The traditional design is strongly influenced by local conditions.
Modern house, built on the basis of the log house cut by hand
To create the link between the inside and the outside, the customer decided to install a glass wall, which plays an important role in the architecture and the design of this house. This construction allows the nature to penetrate the inside of the house. This is exactly what the architect wanted to achieve in his modern Russian wooden house.
The Russian wooden house is in between minimalism and landscape painting
In the development of the house, Nikolai Belousov wanted to demonstrate that wood is a modern material that allows the construction of modern facilities and traditional Russian log cabin can be equipped with a modern interior. The villa has a living area combining kitchen, living room, and dining room. This spacious room features an indoor fireplace, which is used as a purist fashion accessory. A fully furnished basement and walk-in roof are available. An indoor pool transforms the place into a spa. The typical staircases in the Russian wooden house are replaced here by a light wood construction.

The traditional Russian wooden house has a special charm. While the flames in the fireplace are burning, you can cuddle comfortably on the sofa and watch the snowy landscape.
