The new and innovative SaphirKeramik is a revolutionary ceramic material developed by the Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen. Finely crafted ceramic sinks from Laufen are elegant and expressive. This innovative material offers new possibilities for design: technically, edge radii of 1-2 mm are possible, while current state-of-the-art ceramic products usually require a minimum of 7 to 8 mm.

Research director Dr. W. Fischer explains that sapphire ceramic opens up a new range of design possibilities for a ceramic sink, providing much more precision than in the past while maintaining the traditional production process.

The material's exceptional hardness and strength come from ceramic reinforced with corundum (Al2O3). Corundum is colorless and gives the new ceramic its name. This alumina is mixed with raw ceramic silicate to create the bright white color.
Thin-walled shapes

The new ceramic is much harder and is characterized by greater bending strength. Laufen's ceramic washbasin impresses with thin walls and a simple structure. The weight of the basin is also greatly reduced.
Simple and elegant design

The advantages of sapphire ceramic are numerous and include lower costs for raw materials, production energy and product transportation. Laufen's sapphire ceramic does not replace the existing manufacturing process; it expands the design possibilities for the modern sink.
