K_m architecture built a modern house on a hill in 2015 for a family in Weinfelden, Switzerland. Floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the house to stunning mountain views.

The house faces south and offers beautiful views of the surroundings. Floating architecture and natural materials such as concrete, glass and wood dominate the design. To create visual contact with the ground, much of the house is made of wood. The entire facade is clad in natural white pine. Different living spaces are distributed over two floors. The upper volume contains the entrance and forms the roof of the terrace.

The first floor contains the parents’ private bedroom with a large roof terrace. On the ground floor there is a spacious open-plan living area where a fireplace is used as a room divider. The porch surrounds the building, and floor-to-ceiling glass connects inside and outside seamlessly. In winter, the sun provides passive energy. The rear of the house appears more closed.

The house was designed according to strict sustainability principles, including careful material choices and a solar hot-water system.
