12/03/2013 – A private hall for the Kamigata Rakugo Association, a study of light, was built in downtown Osaka from a project by the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The box-like concrete volume measures 8 x 12.5 x 12.5 meters and was designed to accommodate Osaka’s storytellers.
The structure, made from prefabricated panels, is characterized by two triangular cuts: one at the entrance and one near the roof corner, which acts like a fountain of light illuminating the interior.
The project is a symbol of the city of Osaka and recalls both the old city center and the Japanese tradition associated with storytelling.
The beam of natural light that penetrates the concrete body and enters the dark interior becomes a metaphor, alluding to the way the storyteller’s words illuminate the depths of the human soul and elevate the spirit.
