Have you ever wondered how appearance, function, material and production method are connected in a piece of furniture? The design duo Eggpicnic tried to explain the relationship between designers, design object and user through an innovative creation. We present the charming “Amalia” lounge chair designed by Eggpicnic. In addition to its ergonomic, graceful curves, the furniture design has a distinctive look, thanks to the chosen material and production technique.
Lounge Chair by Studio Eggpicnic
The “Amalia” project was produced in collaboration with artisans Mario Rojas and Francisco Palma. The chaise longue clarifies the relationship between designers, users and the chosen material. The ergonomic chair was made from mimbre, a wicker fiber from Chimbarongo, Chile, 160 km south of Santiago, and was hand-woven using traditional techniques.
Curved shape that is trendy
Amalia is a functional design object with a copper-colored finish that provides a comfortable place to read and relax. On both sides of the lounge chair, openings reveal the structure and the woven surface, so you can imagine the process of hand weaving.
Modern furniture that invites you to linger and relax
Eggpicnic is a design studio with roots in Sydney, Australia, and Santiago, Chile. The designers are strongly committed to sustainability and environmental protection. Today, we are surrounded by many goods that have little emotional, symbolic or cultural value. To understand the value of an object better, the designers explored traditional crafts and local knowledge. Resource conservation is also supported because “Amalia” is made to order.
