When you see the designs by Yaroslav Galant, however, the idea no longer seems so strange. This young Ukrainian designer pushes the limits of design and shows an amazing collection of charred wood furniture. This designer furniture made of wood can leave you speechless.

Furniture design in charred wood

Yaroslav Galant uses an innovative approach to the creation of charred wood furniture. The collection of furniture design is called "Born 2B Burn", and this dressing table with mirror is part of it. How does it work? First, the mirror frame is charred. The designer developed a patented process for wood carbonization at a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius. The wood is exposed to high heat for a short period; in the process, the outer layers of the wooden frame are charred, while the core remains intact. During combustion, the surface gains the desired color and consistency.

Once the burned part has cooled, the designer treats the wood with a patented substance he invented, Epioftonol. It penetrates the wood and is followed by a crystallization process that can last from one week to one month. The amount and concentration of this substance determine the color and texture of each piece. Once the furniture has reached the desired appearance, it is finished and painted. Charred furniture design can be adapted to any style, and the technique is also suitable for modern furniture.
