When does a piece of design become a work of art? The term design-art can describe unique objects that combine artistic expression with a measure of function. Boca do Lobo's "Time Goes By" blends fantasy with a sense of old-world reality. This charming pendulum clock design reaches back to another era, then pairs that heritage with a contemporary interior.
Grandfather clock with pendulum – Back to the Future

Grandfather clocks are classic timepieces often seen in older homes. But what happens when that familiar form is given a modern, eclectic look? The Portuguese furniture manufacturer Boca do Lobo is known for original furniture and ornate home accessories, and this clock offers a balanced blend of antique character and contemporary design. It echoes the traditional floor clock while giving that inheritance a new form.

The clock has a hand-carved mahogany frame and a digital display with red numbers. Its stainless-steel pendulum is enclosed in a smoked-glass box. The hand-carved mahogany base is covered with silver leaf and finished in a combination of high-gloss amethyst and smoky black translucent varnish. The complex process can be seen in the video below, from drawings and 3D models to hand-finished decorative details.
