The folding picnic table is designed for a maximum of two people. It works like a napkin or towel tied around the neck. The table surface is made of plastic and has enough room for two plates and cutlery. Small pockets are integrated into the design, leaving space for accessories such as toothpicks, salt, pepper and spices. Two cup holders are also built into the table, so in theory nothing should stand in the way of outdoor dining. The only question is whether the table is stable and whether two people can keep it balanced the whole time. Otherwise, the idea is genuinely clever: it is compact, easy to pack and ideal for a romantic outing. It might even make life in the big city a little easier, especially for students who like to spend their free time on the campus lawn.

The folding picnic table was inspired by the designer’s student life. Today, food culture is strongly influenced by modern technology. Friends often connect mainly through Facebook, Skype and similar tools. What used to be normal, the family gathering around the table in the evening, has become more of an exception. The young designers therefore wanted to encourage togetherness. Because everything must stay balanced on the folding table, there is less time for the phone.
