Designer duo Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai were commissioned by Claudia Pignatale, founder and artistic director of Secondome Gallery in Rome, to develop a series of rocking furniture for the "Rock It!" show. The pieces designed for the occasion, Rocker No. 1 and Rocker No. 2, show how the familiar rocking horse can be transformed from a children’s toy into a refined object for adults. Through a sophisticated design process, this rocking-horse furniture design gains new meaning and purpose. The two pieces combine craft with an approach suited to broader production.
Rocking-Horse Furniture Design – Double and Single Versions

Lanzavecchia + Wai pointed out that the rocking horse is an oxymoron: a moving object that remains in place, always just out of reach. As a form, it inevitably recalls the time we spent in play. To give this simple combination of body and structure a new life, the designers applied the laws of physics and movement. The result is a meeting between steel, a material associated with strength, and one of the most beloved symbols of childhood: the rocking horse.
Rocking-Horse Furniture Design With Leather

Adults can also have fun and play cowboy, because the rocking furniture is equipped with designer leather saddles. Eventually, reality brings you back down to earth, and the rocking horse can be used again as an interesting bench. An integrated stop makes this transformation possible.
