Brazilian designer Erico Gondim designed the Ivy lounge rocker according to the principles of biomimicry. In biology, mimicry refers to an organism’s evolutionary adaptation in which it resembles another plant or animal species. Sometimes the imitation is so precise that the mimic and the model are hard to distinguish. For example, harmless insects may imitate the strong black-and-yellow pattern of a wasp. This form of camouflage helps the animal survive and keep enemies away.

The base of the rocking lounge chair transforms the two-dimensional objects created in a drawing into a three-dimensional form with a striking sculptural character. The finish of Ivy is a highlight. Its frame is made from unpeeled American oak, while the seat and backrest are handwoven from palm leaves. To ensure a comfortable seat, the palm leaves are covered with water-resistant felt. The ergonomic seat follows the contours of the human body and wraps the sitter in soft, reassuring comfort.
