Unusual furniture reflects a distinctive style and a keen sense of design. At first glance, Korean designer Jinil Park’s pieces look like simple, almost childish rough drawings, but they have been transformed into furniture that looks like sketches made from wire. The three-dimensional objects have the appearance of two-dimensional drawings and radiate an almost sculptural beauty. Even with two-dimensional sketches on paper, we think in three dimensions and imagine how they will look in real life. The design series gives the impression that the boundaries between reality and illusion are merging.
Unique handmade furniture made of steel wire
These extraordinary figures set a new benchmark in terms of style. The illustrations are executed in black lines that are slightly uneven and not clearly defined. The thin rough drawing lines give the impression that the designer is still experimenting with ideas. To obtain the desired optical effect, different lines were needed: some slightly higher, some slightly lower. To make the pieces look as authentic as hand-drawn sketches, Park hammered wires of different lengths and thicknesses.
Revolutionary furniture appears to be sketched in space
Jinil Park turned an unusual design idea into reality. The furniture designs are made of steel wire and include pieces such as chairs, lights and a table. Despite their delicate structure, the pieces in the design series are stable enough to support the weight of a human being. The emphasis is on deformed, distorted and connected structures and lines. They refer to an individual "handwriting" and express the artist’s emotions and inner world. The simple shapes and emotional spontaneity make the design especially attractive. Linear wire furniture recently revolutionized the design world at the Gwangju Design Biennale in South Korea in the fall of 2013.
