We present the Spoon Chair – a unique chair design that synthesizes aesthetics, function and pure art. The project by Vienna-based designer Philipp Aduatz was created with advanced technologies and production methods.
Unusual Chair Design
The creative concept behind the design of the Spoon Chair is based on the principle of the cantilever chair, but the support rises upward, loops back and carries the weight from above. The curved shape of a bent leaf served as inspiration and was transformed into a functional work of art.
Spoon Chair design combines innovation and advanced technology
In the Spoon Chair, Aduatz combines chair design and ergonomics with contemporary production technology. The piece was developed with computer numerical control (CNC) milling and rapid-prototyping methods.
A cantilever curve and a bent leaf served as inspiration
The development of the chair design was an extensive process that began with a simple pencil sketch. Aduatz created a 3D model and produced the first polystyrene prototype with CNC milling. The model was then reshaped by hand until it met the requirements for safety and seating comfort.

The concept combines a sensational chair form with technology-driven production. The Spoon Chair was made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer. Carbon fiber is used in motorsport and aerospace because of its low weight, high strength and durability.
