A modern garden house by Santiago-based DRN Arquitectos
In Cachagua, in the Valparaíso region of Chile, “Los Molles House” is a beautiful modern home designed to open completely toward the garden and take full advantage of the surrounding greenery. Although this modern weekend house is not in a remote area, it was designed so that the clients can enjoy their leisure time in a calm, private atmosphere.
“Los Molles House” – a modern chalet
This modern cottage is located in a popular area close to the coast, but it does not have a direct ocean view. For this reason, DRN Arquitectos oriented the building toward the woods and hills. The site is sloped and uneven, so the structure had to be built with care. The slope also offers many benefits, creating a balance between indoor and outdoor space. The lower part of the house is built from solid steel, while the upper levels use wood and metal.
This modern house offers generous space for large families and their guests. To make full use of the site, the house is divided into five parts, each extending along the length of the property. The most interesting aspect of the design is how each part relates to the garden and completes the connection between house and landscape. As a result, the home feels more open and allows residents to enjoy every detail of the garden.

Another feature of the house is its emphasis on the horizontal plane, which naturally dominates the interior. The building is longer than it is wide, with large windows that shape the experience inside. The roof and walls recede into the background beside the green view visible through the large windows.
Because this modern house is intelligently built on several levels, part of one roof becomes the terrace for the next section, connected with its corresponding part of the garden. In this way, the house is fully connected to its environment.
During the cold winter months, when fewer people visit the house at the same time, it is possible to close the lower floors and focus activity on the upper levels. In this way, “Los Molles House” becomes a house for every season. With outdoor meals in the garden, this home is a beautiful modern cottage.
