To enhance this old chair, you will need:

– Paint
– An old chair with a spindle back
– Leather or fabric (10 cm x 20 cm)
– 5 m poly cord
– A punch (optional, but it will make the job easier)
– A cutter
– Measuring tape
– Pencil
– Some binder clips

Step 1:
Paint the chair in your chosen color. This chair has a classic spindle back, so the spindles need to be removed first.

Step 2:
To determine the length of the leather panel, measure about 5 cm below the seat, up over the center of the backrest, and down again on the other side. It is better to cut a little more than not enough; you can trim off the excess at the end.

Step 3:
Cut the piece of leather, fold it in half with the inside facing inward, and place it on the chair. Make a mark where the curved back begins. This marks the position for the first hole.

Step 4:
Remove the leather from the chair and place it on a smooth surface. Fold it in half and secure it with binder clips, two at the top and two at the bottom. Start making the holes with a punch or cutter, marking them about 2.5 cm apart.

Step 5:
Place the piece of leather on the back of the chair. Take about 2 m of cord, find the center, and tie a knot. Begin weaving by threading each end of the cord through the holes at the top of the backrest. Loosen the knot and pull the cord tight on both sides.

Keep the cord stretched as you attach it to the chair. Follow steps A, B, and C as shown in the photo, working on both sides.
