Joyce & Jeroen is a typical terraced house in The Hague, the Netherlands. In 2015, the home remodeling project took a comprehensive approach to updating the structure and extending the living space outdoors. Increased transparency through the use of glass is a current trend in modern home design.

The home remodeling allowed the architects and designers to realize a bold vision. The house already had plenty of potential, and the main structure was retained. The typical street-facing facade was renovated and given a new design inspired by the townhouses of The Hague. The other side of the house was completely dismantled and rebuilt as an 11-meter-high glass facade.

Behind the house, the load-bearing wall between the hallway and the living room was replaced by a steel structure. The concept continues with new circulation areas and 2.4-meter-high ceilings. The boundaries between interior and exterior were made more permeable, creating a new living space.
Focus on building height
The three levels are surrounded by an open glass envelope. The quiet glass volume makes the building feel welcoming. Inside, glossy surfaces also create eye-catching accents. The interior continues with exciting color contrasts and lighting design.
The architecture of the renovated house
Contrasts arise between vintage home accessories and modern technology. A new steel spiral staircase leads to the roof terrace, which offers a beautiful view. Joyce & Jeroen also has an outdoor kitchen and a hot tub.
